On 28th Feb 2024, AlphaPi hosted a hybrid event together with Microsoft Australia showcased how mixed reality and AI can be used to enhance the training, collaboration, and decision-making of frontline workers in various industries and scenarios.

Microsoft’s Vision for the Industrial Metaverse and Ethical AI 

  • Sarah Bowden, Microsoft Asia Global Partner Solutions Lead, opened the event with an introduction to Microsoft’s mission, vision, and values for empowering every person and organisation on the planet to achieve more. She highlighted how Microsoft is investing in the industrial metaverse, where people and AI can work together to solve problems in the physical world, using mixed reality and edge computing. She also emphasised the importance of responsible and ethical AI, and how Microsoft is creating a platform that is trusted, transparent, and secure. 

Bridging Innovation: AlphaPi’s Vision for Empowering Frontline Workers with Mixed Reality and AI 

  • John Livanas, AlphaPi Chairman, shared the vision and approach of AlphaPi, a company that bridges the gap between industry and research, and leverages the power of mixed reality and AI to deliver innovative solutions for frontline workers. He gave examples of some of the partnerships and projects that AlphaPi has been involved in, such as working with the Australian Federal Police, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and Land on Heart, an indigenous company that provides remote support for mixed reality devices. 

Innovating Reality: Unveiling the Future with Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Microsoft’s Mixed Reality and AI Platform 

  • Lawrence Crumpton, Microsoft Mixed Reality Specialist, demonstrated some of the latest features and capabilities of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device and the Microsoft mixed reality and AI platform. He showed how the Microsoft HoloLens can understand the physical world in real time and provide contextualised and personalised assistance to users. He also previewed some of the upcoming products and services that will enable users to create, share, and access digital information and experiences in any location, such as Perception Cloud, Copilot, and Remote Operations and Support.

Empowering Frontline Innovation: Microsoft’s AI Integration with Mixed Reality for Transformative Experiences 

  • Felicity Turner, Microsoft Data and AI Specialist, gave an overview on the Microsoft AI platform and how it can be integrated with mixed reality and other technologies to deliver transformational experiences for frontline workers. She explained the different types of AI, such as machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI, and how they can be used to provide insights, automation, and simulation. She also shared a use case of how Microsoft worked with the Department of Defence to use cognitive services to increase situational awareness and improve mission planning and execution.

AlphaPi highlighted AlphaPi’s pioneering solutions that seamlessly integrate cutting-edge research with real-world challenges. AlphaPi’s approach to customer engagement revolves around understanding the end user’s needs, challenges, and values before diving into solution development. AlphaPi’s methodology involves:

Pioneering Future Possibilities

AlphaPi presented a demo of a mixed reality and AI training system for law enforcement officers. The system aims to improve the situational awareness and intervention skills of officers in high-risk incidents involving drug-intoxicated aggression in a watch house setting. The system uses the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device, Copilot, and cognitive services to provide immersive, interactive, and adaptive training scenarios that simulate real-life situations and provide feedback and guidance.

At AlphaPi, we envision a future where technology seamlessly integrates with strategy to redefine possibilities. While our recent demonstrations have showcased potential within a two-week timeframe, the horizon extends far beyond mere simulations.

  • Real-World Overlay: Building upon insights shared by industry leaders, we seek to overlay real-world data to aid in operations, such as crime prevention. 
  • Predictive Crime Prevention: Utilizing AI, we aim to analyse vast datasets to provide proactive suggestions for crime prevention strategies. 
  • IoT Integration: Our vision extends to integrating IoT devices, such as sensors, into training scenarios, enriching simulations for a more immersive experience.
